Women Share the Worst Cases of Mansplaining They've Ever Experienced

May 19th 2017

Another day, another Twitter thread of women sharing their mansplaining experiences.

Nicole Froio, a Ph.D. student of women's studies, asked the women of Twitter to share "the worst time you've ever been mansplained to" after being inspired by that same topic discussion in a feminist group.

Her request was simple:

Similar to another viral Twitter thread on the topic, which was started by podcast host Tracy Clayton, women chimed in with their experiences from the worst offenders.

As the responses came in, Froio noted "There's like 4 instances of cis men mansplaining vaginas & periods to cis women, wtf is up with this trend???"

Then she brought up another important point:

The aforementioned Atlantic article, titled "How Doctors Take Women's Pain Less Seriously," pointed out the great disparity in how men and women are treated as patients. In the piece, the study "The Girl Who Cried Pain: A Bias Against Women in the Treatment of Pain" is quoted:

"[Women] are more likely to be treated less aggressively in their initial encounters with the health-care system until they 'prove that they are as sick as male patients.'"

"Nationwide, men wait an average of 49 minutes before receiving an analgesic for acute abdominal pain. Women wait an average of 65 minutes for the same thing," The Atlantic reports.

While these candid tweets on mansplaining experiences from women may come off as just minor annoyances or frustrations, it actually highlights the systemic bias women have to put up with every day.
