What We Know About Umpqua Community College

A mass shooting at Umpqua Community College reportedly killed seven to 10 people and injured more than 20 on Thursday morning.
The shooter is in custody and his identity is unknown at this time, Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice told CNN. "It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was injured," CNN reports.
What we know about Umpqua Community College
Umpqua Community College is a rural two-year college in Roseburg, a small town in Douglas County, Oregon. The average age for students was 38 during the 2013-2014 school year. Less than 1,000 of those enrolled were full-time students, and 2,437 were part-time students. The college's official website went down following the shooting.

"Nestled in the beautiful North Umpqua River Valley, Umpqua Community College is the regional center for higher education," the college's Facebook page reads.
CNN editor Eliott C. McLaughlin reports Umpqua Community College boasts a "peaceful, safe atmosphere." According to CNN, the college reported zero sex offenses, assaults, weapons possessions, hate crimes, or robberies from 2009-2012.
Umpqua Community College officially opened in 1964 to prepare Douglas County students for four-year colleges and to enter the workforce. According to CNN, Umpqua Community College first offered classes out of rented spaces three years earlier in 1961.
