5 Apps That Help Your Anxiety
By:
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. These complex disorders affect about 18 percent of the population (about 40 million adults).
If you’re one of them, there are some apps out there that can help you deal with your anxiety, though they aren't substitutes for consulting a professional. (If you're looking for a therapist, the ADAA has a professional database you can search to find someone in your area.)
1. Pacifica
Pacifica was founded in 2014 by a team in San Francisco. Free for iOS and Android, the app is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, which is often used to treat anxiety. It hits five areas of anxiety and includes guided relaxation and meditation methods, goals, and breathing exercises. You can also track your thoughts and mood.

2. Worry Box
If you’ve ever wished you could trap your anxiety in a vessel and it plunge to the bottom of the ocean, this app works to at least simulate the feeling. You can write down thoughts, anxieties, and worries, and the app will give anxiety-reducing advice. It’s password protected for privacy and available for free for Android users.

3. Self-Help for Anxiety Management (SAM)
Created by the University of the West of England, SAM lets you use a sliding scale to show how worried or anxious you're feeling. It will walk you through calming or relaxation practices and can also connect you with other SAM users.
This free app tells users that the social network is exclusive and isn’t connected to major networks like Facebook or Instagram so you can express your feelings honestly.
