Donald Trump Themed Halloween Is Going to Be Huge This Year

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is one of the hottest Halloween trends this year, inspiring supporters and opponents alike to carve his face on pumpkins and dress in his fashion on October 31. In Mexico, Trump masks are the second best-selling Halloween costumes, but the reason for their popularity differs between the countries.
In the U.S., Trump's Halloween appeal seems to cross party lines. Actor Alec Baldwin, a Democrat, shared his own "Donald Trumpkin" on Instagram last month, and since then, people around the country have been getting in the spirit. Carving a pumpkin in Trump's likeness and decorating it with straw hair-- to many-- is just funny.
The same goes for Trump costumes—including the "sexy Donna T. Rumpshaker costume"—in America. People enjoy dressing up as popular culture icons, and Trump has certainly achieved that status during his presidential run.
"Americans who want to dress up as the real estate mogul turned Republican presidential hopeful have sent Donald Trump Halloween costumes into trend mode on Google," New York Daily News reported. "Donald Trump is officially the top trending costume online nationwide."
In Mexico, where Halloween has only recently become a popular rival to Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead), Trump masks are also flying off the shelves. The top selling mask is of Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, who escaped from a maximum-security prison in July, but Trump comes in as a close second. Nearly 1,000 masks of the presidential candidate have been sold by one company in less than a week, according to the Washington Post.
But don't expect to see anyone wearing "sexy" Donald Trump outfits in Mexico. The unflattering masks are not designed to be lighthearted caricatures of the divisive figure as much as they are political statements. Trump has offended many Mexicans and Mexican-Americans after promoting his plans to build a massive wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and for his remarks regarding illegal immigrants.
"Donald Trump is now one of the favorite villains of Mexicans," Roy Campos, president of the Mexico City-based polling firm Consulta Mitofsky, told Politico. "He has provoked a sense of patriotism and has become the common enemy of the people. People are personally offended, because a third of all Mexicans have relatives living and working in the United States."
