Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, voiced his support of the Muslim community around the world in a new Facebook post on published December 9.

“I want to add my voice in support of Muslims in our community and around the world," Zuckerberg wrote, just days after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump introduced a proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States. "After the Paris attacks and hate this week, I can only imagine the fear Muslims feel that they will be persecuted for the actions of others."

“As a Jew, my parents taught me that we must stand up against attacks on all communities," Zuckerberg contineud. "Even if an attack isn't against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone.”

Zuckerberg continued, saying that Muslims will always be welcome on Facebook:

"If you're a Muslim in this community, as the leader of Facebook I want you to know that you are always welcome here and that we will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you."

Trump is under intense scrutiny over his proposed plan. Other presidential candidates, the White House, journalist Tom Brokow, former Vice President Dick Cheney, author J.K. Rowling, and celebrities like George Takei have condemned Trump's comments.

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on,” a campaign press release reads.

Trump has repeatedly made Islamophobic comments throughout his campaign, and as ATTN: previously reported, the San Bernardino mass shooting that left 14 people dead last week seems to have shifted Trump’s political focus to radical Islam.

Zuckerberg finished his post by saying that people need to stand together and see the good in one another, rather than focuses on the cynicism, hate, and differences between them.

“Having a child has given us so much hope, but the hate of some can make it easy to succumb to cynicism. We must not lose hope. As long as we stand together and see the good in each other, we can build a better world for all people.”
