Kesha's Mom Just Explained Why Kesha Stayed With Dr. Luke After the Abuse
By:
In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Kesha's mother, Rosemary Patricia "Pebe" Sebert, revealed that her daughter continued working with producer Dr. Luke years after he allegedly sexually assaulted and emotionally abused her because she did not want to hurt her career prospects.
A singer and songwriter herself, Sebert told Billboard in an extensive interview that she asked Kesha to cut ties with Dr. Luke after the reported sexual assault, for which Kesha sued Dr. Luke in 2014.
"I wanted Kesha to come forward a long time ago and end this relationship with Dr. Luke immediately after the [alleged] rape, but if she wanted to have a shot at the music business, she had no choice but [to work with him]." — Rosemary Patricia "Pebe" Sebert - Billboard.com

Sebert told the publication that her daughter was a "prisoner" to the highly successful music producer, who has worked with industry big names such as Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Marina and the Diamonds, to name a few. Sebert added that Kesha expressed immense excitement when Dr. Luke showed her kindness, because he was usually so cruel to her.

Dr. Luke made headlines Wednesday after the Wrap reported that Sony intended to drop the music producer following the PR disaster surrounding his lawsuit with Kesha.
After the story went live, however, Dr. Luke's attorney denied the report and said in a statement that Dr. Luke "has an excellent relationship with Sony."
Dr. Luke has fervently denied the sexual abuse allegations, and Kesha was recently denied an injunction that would have released her from her recording contract with Sony, which employs both artists. Many were furious over the court's decision, including several big name celebrities such as Lady Gaga, who said it was unfair to make Kesha continue working with her alleged abuser.
