The Twitter Feud Between Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump Escalated

May 11th 2016

Donald Trump and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren really aren't getting along lately, and the latest escalation in their week-long Twitter feud proves it.

Trump fanned the flames of their social media spat on Wednesday with a series of tweets that called Warren's Native American heritage and Senate career into question.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said that Warren "has been one of the least effective Senators in the entire U.S. Senate" and alleged that her "phony Native American heritage" prevented her from running as either a presidential candidate or becoming a potential pick for vice president.

That's when Warren entered the ring and punched out several tweets responding to Trump's attack.

The senator criticized Trump's policies and past statements on a wide range of issues, including women's rights, college affordability, the minimum wage, and Wall Street regulation.

"Your policies are dangerous," Warren wrote. "Your words are reckless. Your record is embarrassing. And your free ride is over."

Trump jumped back into the feud and accused Warren of pulling the "woman's card."

"Isn’t it funny when a failed Senator like goofy Elizabeth Warren can spend a whole day tweeting about Trump & gets nothing done in Senate?" Trump wrote.

The Twitter feud is an ongoing affair that started last week when Trump said he hoped Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would choose Warren as a running mate.

You can read the full exchange here, but what you need to know about the initial feud is that it centered largely on Warren's Native American heritage. Warren hit back with a string of tweets calling Trump "a bully" who was "recycling hate-filled attacks" against her and her family.

"Trump has repeatedly attacked Warren over her Native American heritage, in an attempt to resurface a controversy that dogged her during her Senate campaign against Scott Brown in 2012," Politico reports.

Wednesday's development might have something to do with the fact that Mic released an interview with Warren, in which the senator spoke frankly about Trump and their recent spat.

"I don't know if it's that Donald Trump is not used to people who stand up and challenge him, and I don't mean on silly stuff, or on personal stuff," Warren told Mic. "This is really about the issues he's put on the table and talking about him, Donald Trump."

Warren added:

"I don't think that's where Donald Trump wants to be, the idea that he has to be held accountable. I don't think he likes that. I think he's actually a lot weaker than he wants to admit."
