The white police officer who made national headlines last summer for throwing a 15-year-old Black girl to ground and pulling a gun on several other teenagers during a pool party will not face any criminal charges.
Despite a video of the incident and wide public outrage, a grand jury decided Thursday to not indict Officer Eric Casebolt for his actions outside the community pool, according to CBS News.
The dramatic video of Casebolt throwing teenager Dajerria Becton to ground and handcuffing her sparked another national conversation about race and police brutality.
That conversation has been re-ignited by the Grand Jury's decision.
In the video of the incident, Casebolt can be seen running toward teenagers and rolling on the ground on his way to the scene.
As ATTN:'s Alex Mierjeski wrote at the time of the incident, Casebolt's roll, intentional or not, was interpreted as the ultimate physical manifestation of America's increasingly militarized police force.
Casebolt's behavior was the latest example of overbearing police tactics meted out in an unwarranted setting. It fell neatly into place in a string of racially-charged police violence that has sparked a nation-wide conversation surrounding the use of force, simmering racial tensions, and a militarized police force.
Later in the video Casebolt puts his knee in Becton's back.
